For journalistic purposes, the view from the sixth floor executive suite of the Hilton, looking onto the beautiful architecture of the docks, Tate and museums, and onto my boat and Bidston Observatory across the water. It's important to me to not show this view, a secret view, for this amazing scene to be hidden. For there to be a whole world to the piece hidden away.
It's also important to leave the hotel to the imagination, to leave it open. Each person has their own magic hotel or ideal top floor suite, it's important to leave this open for the audience to fill in and somehow become the inhabitant, the hotel guest. I also love Raymond Chandler and detective mysteries, in which the hotel is scene of the crime and much is left to the imagination.
Interesting conversation with my priest and cinematographer friend about the concept of the fourth wall in cinema. In terms of collaboration, allowing the audience to collaborate could surely be the most important collaboration.
